Labor Day Rest

Am I the only Mom with two small kids who thought this on Sunday night – What do you MEAN the day care is CLOSED? I need a BABYSITTER!

It’s not that I don’t love being with my kids, but they can be exhausting and I will tell you the truth, Monday morning at work is very relaxing for me.  If this is a day to honor labor, then shouldn’t I get to rest?

It turned out all right. Our neighborhood had a Labor Day parade, which was super low-key, with parents and their kids in wagons and on bikes walking the sidewalk around the park with a few neighbors cheering and clapping. I love how kids love the simple things, it just doesn’t need to be as fancy as we think sometimes. In the afternoon we cooked on the grill with some friends while the kids played dress-up and we all had ice cream for dessert.

For a few minutes there, at our friends house, I fell asleep on the couch, so I did get a little rest after all. And overall, it was a pretty good day with the kids. But I will enjoy my morning at work tomorrow, even more than usual.

I am now at work, at my desk, checking email (and reading your blog) and sitting STILL for more than 2 minutes for the first time in 5 days (since I started my labor day weekend early with a trip out of town). Work is currently my respite, but don’t tell anyone!
