Top 5 Things I Like About Jill Smokler’s Confessions of a Scary Mommy

Scary Mommy on Amazon

Jill Smokler is the Mom behind the Scary Mommy blog and the author of Confessions of a Scary Mommy. Here are the Top 5 things I like about her book:

1. It is real. Being a Mom is a dirty, frustrating business that isn’t full of beauty and love all the time. Jill captures the humor and the tension between a Mom’s simultaneous convictions, “This is really hard.” and “I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

2. The book is short and funny at the same time. A Mom’s reading time is precious and limited and each ten minutes of reading could be exchanged for 10 minutes of sleep, so short and funny at the same time is very important.

3. I identify with her weakness for cursing, see here.

4. I also don’t like to go to the #$%#%$ pool, see her Chapter 21.

5. Mommy books have personalities and this one feels like a long-time girlfriend you meet for coffee when you need to laugh and when you need to cry, sometimes at the same time, and that feels pretty good.

Bonus reason: This book is just $10. Click on the book above to buy it from Amazon.com.

There is only one part I didn’t like, which was a very small part, but it is related to something I’ve been thinking about lately. Stay tuned for an extra Tuesday post about the one thing I don’t like about Confessions of a Scary Mommy.
